Breezy

We've had 30mph winds consistently blowing up the Severn today, many of the birds have been sheltering behind islands, vegetation or choosing sheltered spots to feed. Most of the waders that arrived late last week remain on the scrapes.

Middle Point

Up to 6 Little Egret and 73 Curlew in the high tide roost, 129 Shelduck fed on the mudflats off here at low tide.

South Lake (The Discovery Hide)

102 adult and 28 juvenile Avocet, 14 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Lapwing, 3 Little-ringed Plover, 6 Oystercatcher, drake Teal, drake Chiloe Wigeon hybrid, c30 Gadwall, 15 Coot, 1 Common Tern, 2 Shoveler, female Pintail, 240 Black-headed Gull and an adult and 2cy Mediterranean Gull.

Zeiss Hide/Top New Piece

4 Ruff (black, white and blonde phase males and breeding plumage female), 39 Black-tailed Godwit, adult Greenshank, c40 Redshank, 3 Avocet, 56 Teal, 2 broods of Gadwall, 2 broods of Shelduck, 2 Sand Martin + 5+ Swift, Y Wagtail carrying food.

Kingfisher Hide

The Kingfishers have been busy at the nest bank, numerous sightings today. The Crane family were also seen from here.


Although all other hides are closed until further notice the Ruddy Shelduck was still present on Tack Piece, it is possible to look back from the Summer Walkway viewing platform to try to see it, the usual Green Sandpipers were present on Rushy and Tack Piece.
