Busy Bitterns

The Top New Piece was place to be with two Bitterns showing well for prolonged periods, sightings were made between 1045am-1.30pm and again at 3pm when one bird walked the length of the fleet from Van de Bovenkamp Hide to the Zeiss Hide.

Bottom New Piece/Kingfisher Hide

Very busy and and off subject to raptor activity, 700 Golden Plover, 20 Snipe, 220 Lapwing and 180 Dunlin seen here today with the 37 Russian and 2 Greenland White-fronted Geese feeding here today. Water Rail and Cetti's Warbler have been active near the hide. 13 Bewick's Swan dropped in late afternoon.

South Finger Reedbed

We were working in here toay with our work party, a couple of Chiffchaff were heard as well as Siskin, Fieldfare and Redwing passing over.

Top New Piece/Zeiss Hide

200 Red Knot, 450 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Redshank, 11 Snipe and 600 Teal among the birds present at time today.

South Lake

60 Dunlin, 420 Black-tailed Godwit, 17 Ruff, 11 Snipe, 179 Knot, 225 Lapwing but many flushed by a Buzzard and moved to Top New Piece. On the deep lake 140 Shoveler, 32 Pochard, Pochard x Ferruginous, 14 Cormorant, 90 Tufted Duck.

No sight or sound of any Chiffchaffs here today.
