Cackling Goose hide and seek

A couple of brief sightings of the Cackling Goose today

A WeBS count was undertaken this morning but numbers had dropped off from what was seen yesterday, many birds were likely to be on the Severn.

Cackling Goose

It was in the Goose House Ground but mostly hidden behind the line of trees for the morning, it moved to the Stall House Ground in the afternoon and was briefly glimpsed through a gateway, it is largely hidden in here.

Ox Piece/Stall House and 19 Acre field (latter can only be viewed from the Sloane Tower which is closed for Covid 19 safety, sorry)

The five Pink-footed Geese and 100+ Russian White-fronted Geese were scattered across these fields with 200+ Greylag.

Tack Piece

83 Canada Geese, 370 Wigeon, 31 Shoveler, 16 Pintail, 119 Teal, 13 Ruff, 15 Redshank, 3 Shelduck, 35 Lapwing, 17 Greylag, numbers of birds increased during the day with flocks of Dunlin, 232 Black-tailed Godwit and 38 Curlew feeding here. A Greenshank roosted but flew off to the wet fields to the North.

Rushy

117 Pochard, 198 Tufted Duck, 2 Mute and 52 Bewick's Swans, 107 Shelduck, 36 Canada and 99 Greylag Geese, 192 Mallard, 71 Pintail, 42 Teal, 9 Moorhen, 13 Coot, 122 Lapwing, single male Manadarin and Shoveler.

Duck Decoy

Five Cattle Egret and four Little Egret roosted.

South Lake

62 Shelduck roosted, 36 Mallard, 77 Tufted Duck, 7 male Pochard, 2 Mute Swan, 15 Shoveler, 8 182 Lapwing, 5 Dunlin, the five Cattle Egrets dropped in, 2 Ruff, 8 Cormorant and a Great Crested Grebe.

Top New Piece

585 Wigeon, 122 Lawping, 36 Pintail, 90 Teal.

Bottom New Piece

118 Canada Geese, 330 Lapwing, 340 Golden Plover, 90 Dunlin, 1 Ruff and 90 Teal.

Grounds

A roaming party of Siskin followed the Goldfinches, all preferring to feed in the Alder trees. Chiffchaff heard in the grounds.
