Increase in Shoveler numbers

Two Garganey showing well on South Lake
South Lake Great birding again from here, highlights include 2 Garganey among 120 Teal and a high count of 132 Shoveler. Among the waders 2 Curlew Sandpiper are probably best but also a great mix of ages and sex among 8 Ruff . There were 22 mostly sleepin

A not so Ruff count
We seem to have had an influx of Ruff this morning with at least 26 birds present. The species can be seen from almost every hide with individuals totals being 13 birds on the Rushy Pen, 2 on the Top New Piece as seen from Zeiss Hide, at least 5 on Sout

Otter-ly lovely

World Shorebird day...
The scrapes are busy with waders with high tide being the best time to see the greatest variety. Speaking of variety it is well worth looking carefully at the 17+ (possibly 24) Ruff that are on site. This species is well known for displaying various sizes

South Lake waders
This morning's hides round was well before High Tide, but all the wader action was happening at South Lake with 7 species present including 2 Curlew Sandpiper. The cool and cloudy start to the day has kept warbler action low so far but lots of Chiffchaf

High Tide waders
Zeiss Hide Good high tide this morning pushed lots of small waders into the Top New Piece. Among 45 Dunlin and 20 Ringed Plovers were 4 Curlew Sandpiper, 5 Ruff , 6 Black Tailed Godwit and single Knot and Little Stint. Teal numbers looked a little higher
