Cattle Egret numbers increasing

South Lake

Water levels are up following the rains but the bird numbers and variety has remained the same. Seven Cattle Egrets visit the north causeway to have a rest and preen when they are not following the local cattle herds.

Sightings for today include the following.

Middle Point

A single and 14 probably Arctic Terns SW, 8 Golden Plover, Sanderling, Spotted Redshank, 31 Ringed Plover, 25 Dunlin, juvenile Bar-tailed Godwit + 47 Curlew, 2 Great Egret, 200 Shelduck, juvenile Yellow-legged Gull with Herring Gulls, 8 Great Black-backed Gull, 33 Wigeon, 5 Pintail, 3 Snipe over.

Stonechat, Reed Buntings and Meadow Pipits, 3 Chiffchaff in the hedge, 18 Swallow and 3 House Martins. Estuary Tower- 15 Swallow, 5 House Martin, 3 Chiffchaff, Golden Plover and 7 Ruff among the Lapwing, 20 Wigeon, 80 Teal and 2 Pintail on the Dumbles floods.

Kingfisher Hide

Two Hobby and the partially leucistic Marsh Harrier.

Rushy Hide

Two Green Sandpiper, Water Rail, 2 Snipe, 2 Spotted Redshank, 10 Redshank, Black-tailed Godwits, 120 Teal.

Tack Piece

Two Pintail, 250 Teal, 20+ Wigeon, Spotted Redshank.

7 Cattle Egret (also in entrance road fields with Longhorn Cattle), 7 Pintail, 44 Avocet, 2 Shelduck, 3 Snipe + busy with Teal, Shoveler and Greylag.
