Change of plan

Unfortunately we arrived to news this morning that we have been asked to close some of our hides.

Unfortunately we arrived to news this morning that we have been asked to close some of our hides.

The South Lake Discovery Hide, Zeiss Hide and Kingfisher Hide have remained open today and have been manned by a Guide in the Hide to help you see our amazing wildlife, and help manage the flow of people to keep things safe. Thanks to our volunteers we also managed to open the Estuary Tower today.

Going forward things may develop further, so please keep an eye on the website and social media for news. At the current time, all hides will reopen from 4th July when Government restrictions change.

Zeiss Hide
Three Garganey were new arrivals this morning, a nice treat to see. It appears to be two moulting males and a female. Also of note were 35 Avocet, 34 Redshank, two male Ruff, eight Shoveler, 100 Teal, 47 Gadwall and a calling Water Rail in the reedbed. We believe the latter species may have bred here. Over the high tide period counts were two Knot and Greenshank dropped in.

South Lake Discovery Hide
A Common Sandpiper was showing well this morning in front of the hide, with good views also had of a Green Sandpiper. A pair of Little-ringed Plover appear to be trying again in the nesting cage and 150 Avocet were counted (including 29 chicks). The deep lake held a Little Grebe and the Great Crested Grebe family were also seen. Both Oystercatcher parents and both chicks were on the causeway in front of the hide.

Kingfisher Hide
The Crane chick was looking good this morning with its parents in Bottom New Piece. Also present were a Cuckoo, Cetti's Warbler, Chiffchaff and Reed Warbler all singing and a Great Spotted Woodpecker was seen.

Estuary Tower
Look back to the Tack Piece. Seen this morning were a Grey Heron, three Green Sandpiper, three Oystercatcher, a flock of 77 Barnacle Geese plus our Crane pair Kia and Chocolo. Several House Martin were collecting mud and a Skylark was singing.
