Curlew roost count

A reasonable roost of Curlew were on the Dumbles foreshore over high tide, 204 present which is likely to be birds that prefer feeding on the mudflats rather than inland fields. A small party of Dunlin, 35 Pintail and 200 Wigeon were also feeding here.

Other sightings from the morning round included the following

Rushy Hide

A quick look revealed 61 Pintail among the 700+ duck that were present early morning, the three Bewick's Swans were present early but left.

Tack Piece

32 Greylag, 105 Canada and 32 Greylag Geese, 230 Wigeon, 80 Teal, 210 Lapwing, 670 Golden Plover and 6 Redshank.

The Dumbles

32 Canada Geese, 3 Grey Plover, 89 GBB Gull, 5 Dunlin. A smashing male Goshawk was hunting over here and Top/Bottom New Piece at 0815am and flushed everything including the large gulls.

Top New Piece

557 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 13 Redshank, 137 Knot, 97 Dunlin, 437 Black-tailed Godwit, 10 Greylag.

Bottom New Piece

27 Russian (three broods 2, 2 and 2) and 2 juvenile Greenland White-fronted Geese, 72 Canada, 170 Barnacle and 9 Greylag Geese.

Willow Hide

2 Water Rail.

Duck Decoy, South Lake willows and Canoe Trail

All three sites had a single calling Chiffchaff.

South Lake

171 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Knot, 19 Ruff, c80 Teal, 120 Shoveler, 13 Pochard, 30 Tufted Duck, 8 Cormorant and Grey Heron.
