Curlew Sandpiper count
Top New Piece
At least 14 juvenile Curlew Sandpipers were on the flood with a flock of c350 Dunlin, 7 Ringed Plover, at least seven Little Stint, 12 Snipe, a Green Sandpiper, 8 Ruff, 3 Spotted Redshank, 4 Black-tailed Godwit and 300+ Teal were also present but were moved around by a hunting Marsh Harrier.
The Dumbles
Over high tide at least nine Grey Plover, a Little Stint, 3 Sanderling, 18 Little Egret, 3 Pintail, 6 Wigeon, 70 Dunlin and 21 Ringed Plover.
Middle Point
A Sedge Warbler and North of Middle Point at the afternoon low tide were 37 Grey Plover, a Knot and 2 Bar-tailed Godwit.
South Lake
212 Black-tailed Godwit and 140+ Teal on the scrape.
*Please note that de-silting work with an excavator may begin tomorrow, if not then later in the week or early next week.*
We want to de-silt the channel alongside the scrape to retain aquatic life during drought periods such as in 2022. A deeper moat will also be created to make it harder for predators to reach the Avocet colony.
