First Golden Plover returns

The first Golden Plover of the Autumn arrived this morning, still in partial summer-plumage with the Lapwing flock on the Top New Piece, as viewed from the Zeiss Hide.

The first Golden Plover of the Autumn arrived this morning, still in partial summer-plumage with the Lapwing flock on the Top New Piece, as viewed from the Zeiss Hide. Sadly there was no sign of the Wood Sandpiper present for a couple of days, but with so many reported in the UK recently we hope to see more birds pass through.

Middle Point / Summer Walkway
The Spoonbill was still out on the river at hight tide along with a Grey Heron, 300+ Curlew, 60+ Dunlin, 12 Little Egret and 3 Oystercatcher. Two Kestrel were hunting around Middle Point.

Rushy Hide
The lower pond held 12 Lapwing, 15 Black-tailed Godwit, 12 Green Sandpiper, a Snipe and 2 Avocet. A Little Grebe with a chick was seen on the upper pond.

South Lake
Ten Ruff were on the wader scrape this morning along with 87 Black-tailed Godwit, 32 Lapwing, 3 juvenile Little-ringed Plover plus the remaining adult from the breeding pair, 60 Redshank, 33 Teal and a Green Sandpiper. The deep lake held 68 Gadwall, an adult Little Grebe, 15 Shoveler and 2 Grey Heron.

Zeiss Hide
The first Golden Plover of the season was on the scrape this morning with 177 Lapwing, 9 Dunlin (1 juvenile), 3 Ruff, 2 Snipe, 2 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpiper, 89 Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Redshank, 84 Avocet (25 juveniles) plus 2 chicks and a male Yellow Wagtail.
