First Sedge Warblers of the year

At least two Sedge Warbler were signing this morning, one male could be heard from the Knott Hide, the other below the Zeiss Hide. Both birds kept low in the cool breeze, as the day warms we may hear more or add Reed Warbler to this years list of species recorded.

Rushy Hide

Pair of Little-ringed Plover keeping an eye on their scrape, 13 Avocet, 4 Teal, 6 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, two female Wigeon + Chiloe Wigeon hybrid male, Redshank and pair of Oystercatcher.

Tack Piece

Five Sand Martins NE, 14 Avocet, 20 Teal, 22 Shoveler, single Black-tailed Godwit, a Sparrowhawk circled, 5 Wigeon and 20 Shelduck. 4 singing Willow Warblers between the tunnel and Estuary Tower. Knott Hide- singing Sedge Warbler and Little Egret.

Estuary Tower

Six Golden Plover + 24 Curlew feeding in the grass, 10+ territorial Lapwing, 2 pairs of Oystercatcher, 4 Buzzards, Peregrine on a kill on the sands with Shelduck and Curlew feeding on the mudflats, 7 Shoveler, 6 Teal and 8 Avocet on the scrape.

Top New Piece

The second Glossy Ibis, 3 Ruff, 40 Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Wigeon, 44 Avocet, a mating pair of Redshank, a pair of Crane, 3 pairs of Gadwall, singing Sedge Warbler below Zeiss Hide with pair of Reed Buntings, 9 Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Lapwing on territory and 8 Teal.

South Lake

The 3 Ruff and Black-tailed Godwits relocated to here from the Top New Piece, a male Kingfisher was in the deep lake willows, a pair of Cranes (Ruby/unringed male) nesting, 75 Avocet, 8 Gadwall, 8 Teal, 6 Shoveler, a few Cattle Egrets briefly on the deep lake islands, they pop in here to rest during the day, two pairs of Oystercatcher and threes of Lesser Black-backed and Herring Gulls. A few Tufted Duck kept the Great Crested Grebe company.

Entrance fields

The original Glossy Ibis still on the entrance road fields near to the cattle yard on the N side of road at 07:30am, please use the car park.
