First Willow Warbler of the year

Willow Warbler

A Willow Warbler was in the blackthorn bushes below the Estuary Tower at lunchtime today, this row of trees has come into blossom and is attracting numerous insects. The weather in Spain and light headwinds in the UK seem to have stalled migration, this record is a little later than we have seen in recent years.

Estuary Tower

204 Russian and 3 Greenland White-fronted Geese, 2 Pink-footed Geese, 2 Little-ringed Plover, 1 Snipe around the scrape, passage of Meadow Pipits, Linnets, Herring, Lesser BB and Black-headed Gulls up the Severn, 5+ Golden Plover, 11 male and 2 female Lapwing, 2 Oystercatcher, 15 Teal, 2 Shoveler, 4 Avocet, 13 Curlew, Peregrine + 12 Skylark.

South Lake

37 Shoveler, 74 Black-tailed Godwit (relocating to feed on Top New Piece), 98 Avocet, 1 Snipe (on the beach), 2 Redshank, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Kingfisher, Little Egret, 7 Cormorant and 16 Shelduck.

Hogarth Hide

Green Sandpiper, three Chiffchaff and Blackcap singing near the bridge.

Duck Decoy

Two singing Blackcap.

Tack Piece

Spoonbill, 49 Shoveler, 5 drake Pintail, 3 Snow Geese, 96 Wigeon, a few Teal, Little-ringed Plover displaying and single Redshank with at least 7 Great Egret and 4 Little Egret in the ditches to the North.

Top New Piece

Lapwing on a nest with two more females looking, 6 Redshank (lots of display), Water Rail calling, 22 Avocet, 3 Ruff, the Black-tailed Godwit flock, 31 Teal, Marsh Harrier, Sparrowhawk, 47 Wigeon and a few pairs of Canada Geese.

Singing Blackcap and three Chiffchaff.

133 Shelduck, 3 Oystercatcher and a few Curlew on the mudflats.
