Fulmar floated in on the tide and a Spotted Redshank has arrived

Middle Point

The strong winds have pushed a seabird this far up the Severn, a tired (or sick) Fulmar was seen floating past Middle Point.

Other counts from the high tide period on the saltmarsh shelf included 137 Curlew, 15 Oystercatcher, 4 Common Sandpiper and 3 Redshank.

Tack Piece

The Ruddy Shelduck with the Shelduck flock, a few Lapwing, Green Sandpipers, a Redshank and 2 Oystercatcher were on the scrape with 6 Teal.

Rushy Hide

Three Green Sandpiper, 4 Redshank and a few Lapwing on the muddy edges with small flocks of Gadwall and Mallard.

South Lake

Two Black-tailed Godwit, 32 Redshank, 2 male Ruff, 110 Black-headed Gull with 44 juveniles/chicks, at least 22 Avocet chicks were accompanied by agitated parents, two pairs of nesting Little-ringed Plover and two pairs of Oystercatcher, one with two young. The Great Crested Grebes and chick were out in the open with 40+ Gadwall, 5 Shoveler, the Chiloe Wigeon hybrid and two Teal.

Top New Piece/Zeiss Hide

A breeding plumage Spotted Redshank joined the 20 Redshank mid morning +male and female Ruff, 4 Little-ringed Plovers and 70+ Black-tailed Godwit. The pair of nesting Avocet have hatched a chick and the female continued to sit, more to come hopefully. 40+ Swifts joined the House and Sand Martins feeding over the flood.

Kingfisher Hide

The Crane family were on view and the Kingfishers were busy feeding young at the nest hole.

Duck Decoy/Decoy Hide

The Little Grebes have young.
