Garganey count

Rushy Hide

A juvenile Garganey, 3 juvenile Little-ringed Plover, 5+ Ruff, 8 Green Sandpiper, 4 Avocet, 2 Snipe, 11 Black-tailed Godwits, Redshank, 16 Lapwing and 15 Teal the pick of the birds on the lower pond. A Little Grebe and 25 Gadwall on the top pond. The Wood Sandpiper commuted between here and the Tack Piece. Two Wigeon were new arrivals.

Tack Piece

2 Avocet, 11 Black-tailed Godwit, the juvenile Wood Sandpiper and a Common Sandpiper on the scrape, a flock of Herring Gull and Greylag Geese also present.

Holden Tower

9 Curlew feeding on the cut hay areas and c10 Yellow Wagtail with the cattle herd.

South Lake

18 Ruff early morning, some dispersed to other scrapes, 57 Lapwing, 136 Black-tailed Godwit, 22 Redshank, 2 Snipe. The Crane family with 2 young.

Top New Piece/Zeiss Hide

At least 7 juvenile Garganey among 224 Teal, 12 Shoveler, 22 Gadwall, 7 Ruff, 15 Redshank, 138 Black-tailed Godwit (moved from South Lake), 2 Snipe, 2 Little Grebe.

Wild Safaris

2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Buzzard, Kestrel, 12 Little Grebe, 20 Gadwall, Grass Snakes, Bank Vole, Brown and Migrant Hawkers.
