Glossy Ibis and Spoonbill

A couple of long legged new arrivals today

Scarcer birds today included another immature Spoonbill that was feeding on the Bottom and Top New Piece floods (early morning at least) and a flyover Glossy Ibis, it was low over the Rushy heading NE was feeding in the Severn Ground (just N of Middle Point), hopefully it'll turn up on one of the ditches, wet fields or floods later today.

The Bluethroat was reported yesterday at 1328hrs. WWT Members can access the path to Middle Point from 08:15hrs daily, non-members through admissions from 09:30hrs, please have membership cards available, thank you.

Rushy Hide/Peng Observatory

Coots and Moorhens are hatching young on the top pond and at least one brood of Avocet have hatched on the lower pond with more pairs yet to pip. Five pairs of Black-headed Gulls are on nests and it's great to see a pair of Little-ringed Plovers back on territory at last. Signs of duck beeding season include male only gatherings of Shoverl and Gadwall, three drake Teal yesterday with two and a female today. Regular passes by Herring and Lesser Black-backed Gulls and Buzzards attempting to to grab any chicks.

Tack Piece

Little Egret, a few Tufted Ducks and Shelducks and the broods of Greylag Geese.

Knott Hide

Little Grebes still feeding young, one adult with two chicks begging for food. They are in and out of the cover of the reeds.

South Lake

At least 36 Avocet chicks including a brood of 7, (appears to have adopted some), a Raven took eggs on the South island, the Crane pair with a single chick have been taking it for a walk, the second egg hasn't hatched and is abandoned, drake Pochard, Little Grebes and 6 Black-tailed Godwit.

Top New Piece

Spoonbill has now moved here, 4 Redshank, 81 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 drake Shoveler, 3 Avocet, pair of Cranes with two growing chicks.

Middle Point

On the Severn- at least 13 Sanderling, 103 Ringed Plover, 6 Curlew, 51 Dunlin, male Bar-tailed Godwit, 93 Shelduck and c40 Canada Geese on the higher shelf
