Godwits moving on?

This morning's count of Black-tailed Godwits came to 471, the change in weather may have allowed onward migration, some of our 'mega flock' may have opted to go take on the next stage.

Some of the highlights from the hide round this morning included...

Rushy Hide

30 Teal, Black-tailed Godwit, 7 Avocet, 4 Pintail and an increasingly busy Black-headed Gull colony is developing.

Tack Piece

400 Wigeon, 21 Curlew, 30 Redshank, 2 Oystercatcher and 3 Pintail.

Holden Tower

Four Cranes including a pair mating. Two Peregrines, 45 Avocet, 80 Wigeon, 3 Reed Bunting, 30 Curlew, 133 E. White-fronted Geese and 4 Great Black-backed Gulls.

South Lake

3cy (third calendar year) Mediterranean Gull, 90 Shoveler, 470 Black-tailed Godwit until they began leaving to feed on other fields, 2 Oystercatcher and 2 Great Crested Grebe.

Zeiss Hide

21 Avocet, 140 Wigeon, 30 Teal and 4 Oystercatcher.

Kingfisher Hide

Female Kingfisher at the nest hole for much of the day. Little Grebe on the pool, 160+ Golden Plover on the field plus displaying Lapwings.
