Good spring migration days

Sunday 25th and Monday 26th April have seen some great migration particularly on the Severn

Highlights so far today (27th April) have been

Three Mediterranean Gulls (calling birds) over the car park North, on the Dumbles foreshore singles of Common Sandpiper, Little Stint, Curlew, Sanderling and Ringed Plover with 5 Dunlin, and 16 Bar-tailed Godwits over high tide. Six Yellow Wagtail in the Tack Piece with the cattle, one female appears to be a Blue-headed type, pair of Little-ringed Plover on the Tack with 12 Teal and 7 Wigeon, a Ruff on Top New Piece as well as the nesting Cranes, 41 Black-tailed Godwit, possible male Bar-tailed Godwit and 37 Avocet. Two male and a female Wheatear were o the Dumbles. Best of all was our first singing Cuckoo of the year, it was in the South Finger area.

Highlights for yesterday (26th April)

Singing Grasshopper Warbler just north of the Middle Point estuary track, could be heard from the Shepherd's Hut, three Yellow Wagtail on the Tack Piece, included a male with blue/grey on the nape, adult and 2cy Little Gull with Black-headed Gulls over the grounds, our first Hobby of the year whizzed through the site, 9 Cattle Egret flew toward South Lake, they have been among cattle on the entrance road fields, drake Pochard and Goldeneye in the grounds (Eider pen). On the Severn we had 20 Ringed Plover, 4 Sanderling, 20 Dunlin, a Little Stint, flocks of c60 and c35 Bar-tailed Godwit upriver over the tide with a large flock totalling 190+ seen later in flight to the North, 2 Ruff on the Dumbles and then Top New Piece, 4 Greenshank on the Top New Piece, a single Grey Plover with the Barwits then a flock of six together, three Golden Plover NE at Middle Point. Two Wheatears were at Middle Point. A female Marsh Harrier toured the reserve.
