Goshawk again

A Goshawk was sighted at the South Finger yesterday and seen heading North over the Estuary tower today

Sightings and counts from around the reserve today included the following.

Entrance Road Fields

Adult winter Mediterranean Gull seen with Black-headed Gulls on the floods and fields.

Tack Piece

Our highest count of Russian White-fronted Geese this winter, 122 with 26 juveniles noted as well, one brood of seven! Also 16 Ruff, 37 Redshank, 646 Black-tailed Godwit, 24 Pintail, a Goshawk, 4600 Lapwing and 300+ Teal.

Estuary Tower

Peregrine, 23 Bewick's Swans, 6 Russian White-fronted Geese (moved to Tack Piece), 390 Curlew in the high tide roost, 36 Great Black-backed Gull, Snow and Ross' Goose with Barnacle/Greylag/Canada Goose flock,1500+ Wigeon/Teal/Pintail flock on the Severn.

Rushy Hide/Peng Observatory

47 Redshank, a few Ruff and 400 Dunlin with the Lapwing and wildfowl at lunchtime. The 1w drake Greater Scaup was present at 08:00am but relocated to South Lake and the drake Mandarin was on the lower pond for the feed.

South Lake

The Greater Scaup showed all day and female Goldeneye was sighted, 27 male and 11 female Pochard, 146 Shoveler ,15 Avocets, 400 Lapwing, Cormorants, Tufted Ducks, 3 Pintail, Mallards and Greylags
