Great White on tour

Great White Egret seen from several hides this morning

Great White Egret

Great views this morning in the Martin Smith pools, a great White presumably the same one then appeared a little later at the Zeiss Hide and again at the South Lake Hide. This bird has become much more reliable just recently.

Rushy

Now very ducky, 480 Teal sheltering in here first thing, 2 Pintail and 5 Wigeon. Four very confiding juvenile Ruff, a couple of Redshank and a Snipe.

Estuary walkway

Another 90 Teal here and 2 Pintail, a Grey Wagtail was in front of the Robbie Garnet and a Little Egret in the Pillbox pool. A sheltering Peregrine could be seen distantly on the estuary, lots of Canada, Greylag and Barnacles on the Dumbles with 2 good (not hybrid) Bar Headed Geese. Dunlin, Curlew, Wigeon, GBB Gull and Shelducks were all beginning to move on the rising Tide. All a bit windy just now but watch out for the Stonechats and Whinchat that were seen near the Goose House yesterday. A flock of 50 Shoveler were on the Long ground Pool viewable from the tower.

Zeiss Hide

Another windblown spot with only the ducks toughing it out. There were 415 Teal here, 17 Pintail, 16 Wigeon and 16 Shoveler. Singing Cettis and squealing Water Rail in the reeds. The newly cut rides look great, will be worth spending a little time here as Bittern season approaches.

South Lake

The most sheltered and not surprisingly the best birding spot. A cracking flock of 67 Black Tailed Godwit, 16 Ruff, 7 Redshank, 60 Lapwing and a juvenile Spotted Redshank were really close. Yet more Teal 311 counted with 33 Shoveler, 23 Gadwall and a Pochard as well.
