Green-winged Teal re-appears

Image- Eurasian Wigeon- departures of this grazing duck this week.

The drake Green-winged Teal was relocated today, as expected often hidden in the rushy flood on the Bottom New Piece, a flock of Teal have been feeding and loafing in here but can be hard to see. Best viewed distantly from the Zeiss Hide, look out for the Teal when a raptor passes, they often move to open water.

Other sightings today included the following.

South Lake

Six Cattle Egret this morning, 45 Avocet, 198 Black Tailed Godwit, 50 Shoveler, 2 Little Egret and 4 Oystercatcher.

Estuary Tower

17 Teal, 20 Avocet, 3 Shelduck, 97 Wigeon, 2 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, Curlew, Redshank, 9 Lapwing, Pink-footed Goose with Canada and Barnacle Geese on the Dumbles. 92 Shelduck on the Severn + 5 on saltmarsh. The Russian White-fronted Goose flock moved here mid-morning.

Pill Box Pool

Two Oystercatcher and 30 Wigeon.

Decoy/Withy Bed

Blackcap, 2 Cetti's Warblers and a few Chiffchaffs singing in the Decoy Wood, audible from the path to Estuary Tower.

Tack Piece

Spoonbill again, best views from Martin Smith Hide. A pair of Goosander early morning but flew off to Severn then NE, 282 Wigeon, 45 Teal, 7 Gadwall, 37 Shelduck, 1 Whooper Swan, 1 Bewick's Swan, 1 Ruff, 11 Little Egret, 14 Redshank, m Pochard, 2 Snipe, 21 Curlew, 43 Black-tailed Godwits but numbers fluctuate through the day.

Rushy Hide/Peng Observatory

Spotted Redshank still on lower pond, two Whooper Swans, 3 drake Pochard, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 6 Avocet, 2 Oystercatcher, 18 Teal, 10 Pintail, 17 Tufted Duck, 10 Shelduck, 13 Black-headed Gull and 2 Coot and 2 Moorhen.

Kingfisher Hide

Drake Green-winged Teal on the Bottom New Piece flood, pair of Kingfisher at the nest bank, at least 208 Russian White-fronted Geese on the Four Score Ground with the Barnacle Goose + 6 large, pale Greylag Geese among the Greylags present.
