Hobbies

At least three Hobby were seen feeding over the reserve today, the warm weather certainly offered them insects to hunt on the wing. Other raptors noted included a Marsh Harrier, Red Kite and a few Buzzards.

Dumbles/Top New Piece from Zeiss Hide

7 Cranes and a Marsh Harrier distanlty on the Dumbles, Hobby feeding, 252 Black-tailed Godwit, 21 Avocet, 1 Curlew, Sedge and a few Reed Warbler singing along with Reed Bunting in the reed beds. Three pairs of Redshank and 12+ Lapwing are nesting, have young or are territorial.

South Lake

Two Ruff, 5 Avocet, 4 Oystercatcher and two Black-tailed Godwits on the wader scrape. The Black-headed Gull colony dominates the deep lake soundtrack with 50+ pairs nesting on the islands.

Kingfisher Hide

The Kingfishers are feeding young and visiting the nest hole regularly. A Cuckoo was seen flying across the fields toward here. Reed Buntings plus Cetti's, Reed and Sedge Warblers are all singing.

Tack Piece

Drake Garganey and small numbers of Tufted Duck, Wigeon, Teal, Gadwall and Shoveler on the scrpae, 17 Avocet and three Redshank were also feeding here.
