Kingfishers hatch

Activity at the Kingfisher Hide would suggest that the second brood have now hatched, with both parents busy feeding their new family

Activity at the Kingfisher Hide would suggest that the second brood have now hatched, with both parents busy feeding their new family. Yesterday one of our volunteer Guides in the Hide reported 10 visits an hour, with a similar level of activity seen this morning.

South Lake
A Mediterranean Gull was amongst the Black-headed Gulls on the wader scrape this morning. The pair of Little-ringed Plover were around the nest cage and also on the wader scrape were 115 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Green Sandpiper, a Redshank and 39 Avocet plus 2 chicks. The deep lake held 5 Cormorant, the Great Crested Grebe pair with a single chick, 120 Gadwall, a Little Grebe and 41 Coot.

Rushy Hide
The Little-ringed Plover pair were in and around the nest cage. Also on the lower pond were 13 Avocet and at least 6 chicks of various ages. The Oystercatcher was on the causeway with 3 well grown chicks and a Mediterranean Gull was on the upper pond.

Robbie Garnett Hide
At least 61 Barnacle Geese were in the long grass on the Tack Piece. A Chiffchaff and Greenfinch were both singing along the Holden Walkway.

Zeiss Hide
A female Roe Deer was grazing in the Bottom New Piece. On the scrape on the Top New Piece were 50 Avocet, 2 Black-tailed Godwit, a single Crane (Monty), 35 Redshank, 23 Lapwing and an Oystercatcher.
