Little Tern on the Severn

An adult Little Tern spent the morning fishing off Middle Point in the channel and over the mudflats, it could go missing for periods as it ranged widely but kept returning.

Other species recorded off Middle Point on the Severn mud and sands included the following

The immature Spoonbill, 2 Great and 19 Little Egrets, 2 Sanderling, single adult Knot, 65+ Ringed Plover, 132 Shelduck, 15 Great Black-backed Gull, 29 Curlew, a Ruddy Shelduck or hybrid but very distant, 90 Dunlin also and 40 Sand Martin feeding over the reeds.

South Lake

Five Cattle Egrets, at least seven Ruff, 10 Redshank, 150+ Black-tailed Godwit, Snipe, 4 Pochards.

Tack Piece

Common and 10 Green Sandpiper, 3 Oystercatcher, Redshank and Ruff + 40 Teal. Martin Smith Hide- 2 Wigeon, 13 Gadwall, 2 Little Egret and Grey Heron.

Knott Hide

25 Gadwall, a few Teal and Mallard.

Rushy Hide

The Pectoral Sandpiper arrived back on the Rushy lower pond this afternoon. Four Spotted Redshank, 5 Redshank, 4 Ruff and 50 Black-tailed Godwit but waders have flushed a few times, the immature Spoonbill was present early but moved to the Severn

Top New Piece

Eclipse drake Garganey on the fleet to the South with a Little Grebe and a Pochard among the Teal and Gadwall.
