Yesterday's possible arrival of Bewick's Swans was confirmed by our researcher this morning, thanks to their unique bill patterns. A total of 63 birds were noted.

Zeiss Hide
The hundreds of Wigeon, Teal, Lapwing and Dunlin were flushed by a hunting Peregrine over the Top New Piece this morning. The male bird tried but failed to catch a Lapwing. Also of note were 444 Black-tailed Godwit roosting on the scrape. A Water Rail was calling from the reedbed and a Stonechat was feeding along channel.

Kingfisher Hide
The flock of 128 White-fronted Geese were in the Four Score field with a flock of Greylags this morning, whilst a flock of 207 Canada Geese were in the Bottom New Piece but so far no sign of Cackling Goose yet.

Robbie Garnett Hide
The Tack Piece was filling up for the day with Golden Plover and Lapwing arriving. Also of note were 50 Redshank and 24 Ruff amongst duck flocks which contained Wigeon, Teal, Shoveler and Shelduck.

Estuary Tower
A quieter Dumbles this morning whilst the tide was low. A pair of Raven were on the Dumbles and at least 29 Curlew could be seen on the mudflats.

Rushy Hide / Peng Observatory
A total of 55 Bewick's Swans were on the pond this morning, with another six on the Tack Piece and a pair on the Top New Piece giving us 63 on the reserve today.

Decoy Hide
Last night found eight egrets roosting here but too dark to identify the species present. A check this morning found seven birds still present - four Cattle Egret and three Little Egret. Several thousand Jackdaw also left the nearby roost from the Decoy Wood.
