At least ten new Bewick's Swans were on the pond this morning, and the Black-tailed Godwit flock have returned

At least ten new Bewick's Swans were on the pond this morning. A total of 75 birds were counted, but some birds had already moved inland for the day to feed. So far today a total of 92 birds have been identified thanks to their unique bill patterns.

Estuary Tower
The three adult Greenland White-fronted Geese were with the flock of 138 Russian White-fronted Geese in the Ox Piece this morning. Of the Russian flock there were 44 juveniles, suggesting a good breeding season. In other goose news, three Dark-bellied Brent Geese were on the Dumbles riverbank with the Barnacle Goose flock.

Eight Cattle Egret, two Great Egret and a Grey Heron were roosting on the Long Ground Pool last night, moving off to feed around 8am. At least six of the Cattle Egret were again feeding in field opposite the new car park near to the Tudor Arms pub, just over canal from reserve.

South Lake
A flock of 280 Black-tailed Godwit dropped in at 9:40am bringing four Red Knot with them. Black-tailed Godwit have been noticeably absent in recent weeks with the birds having moved further down river to Pilning Wetlands were record flocks have been seen. Also on the South Lake this morning were 705 Lapwing, two Common Gull, eight Cormorant, 36 Shoveler, 154 Teal, seven Wigeon and a Barnacle Goose.

Robbie Garnett Hide
Two Bar-tailed Godwit were found with the Curlew flock on the Tack Piece this morning. The field also continues to host thousands of birds including Lapwing, Wigeon, Teal, Pintail, Golden Plover, Dunlin, Redshank and Ruff.

Zeiss Hide
A few hundred Teal were hunkered down at the southern end of the Top New Piece to try and keep out the wind. A Marsh Harrier was hunting over the area, and also made a few passes over the Tack Piece too.

Rushy Hide
A total of 75 Bewick's Swans were counted for this morning's feed, but at least ten are new arrivals overnight including a family with single cygnet. Some birds have already gone inland to feed for the day, so today's total should be over 80 birds.
