A Spotted Redshank was on the Top New Piece this morning, another new arrival for the week. Earlier in the week we saw two Snipe on the Rushy, the first of the autumn, and over on the South Lake is appears that a the first returning Black-tailed Godwit have appeared too.

Middle Point / Summer Walkway
The White-spotted Bluethroat was again showing well this morning, ranging widely across the reedbed and along the fence posts. We've seen an emergence of Marbled White butterflies this week, with lots on the wing this morning along with Meadow Brown, Large Skipper and a few Red Admiral.

Rushy Hide / Peng Observatory
The Black-winged Stilt was roosting on the upper pond islands this morning and may be difficult to see from the Rushy Hide, so look from here instead. Earlier the bird was feeding on the lower pond close to the hide.

Zeiss Hide
A Spotted Redshank was found on the Top New Piece this morning along with 24 Redshank, 23 Avocet, a Green Sandpiper, two Oystercatcher, a Great Egret, 55 Gadwall, 12 Tufted Duck and a female Garganey.

Hogarth Hide
The Crane family was with their chick on Duck Marsh this morning.

Martin Smith Hide
A Grey Heron was sat on the old fence post.

South Lake
A total of 142 adult Avocet with at least 21 chicks were on the wader scrape along with a pair of Oystercatcher with three juveniles, 74 Black-tailed Godwit, two pairs of Little Ringed Plover, a brood of five Gadwall ducklings and a brood of three Tufted Ducklings, an adult Little Grebe, a female Wigeon and three drake Pochard.

Estuary Tower
At least four Bar-tailed Godwit were with 26 Curlew in the high tide roost, along with 22 Great Black-backed Gull, a Little Egret and seven Oystercatcher. Two Green Sandpiper were near the hide on the Pillbox Pool.

Robbie Garnett Hide
A Green Sandpiper and a Common Sandpiper were on the Tack Piece this morning.
