A heavy downpour last night has further topped up our water levels. The new islands created on the Tack Piece are now islands, and already being enjoyed by our birds.

South Lake
A Peregrine flew through scattering everything late morning and then perched in the large trees over the fence. Counts earlier included 35 Gadwall, 24 Tufted Duck, 27 Teal, a Mandarin, several Shoveler, a Grey Heron and 200+ Black-tailed Godwit. At least three adult Ruff were also present.

Rushy Hide
The Spotted Redshank was roosting on an island with 11 Redshank mid-morning. Also on the lower pond were four juvenile Little Ringed Plover, a Green Sandpiper, ten Black-tailed Godwit, a Common Sandpiper, Snipe and two adult Ruff.

Kingfisher Hide
The Ross’s Goose was again with the Barnacle Goose flock.

Estuary Tower
A juvenile Kestrel was hunting the seawall close to the hide this morning. Out on the Dumbles were at least 65 Curlew. The estuary held 25+ Great Black-backed Gull and 5 Little Egret as the tide began to fall, along with several hundred other gulls and two Grey Heron. A Cetti's Warbler was calling in the Pillbox Pool reedbed and a brood of Tufted Duck were on the Long Ground Pool.

Robbie Garnett Hide
Four juvenile and one adult Little Ringed Plover were on the Tack Piece first thing, with the juveniles later moving to the Rushy. Also of note were five Green Sandpiper, 19 Pied Wagtail - many of which were juveniles - and 20 Teal.
