More signs of Autumn

The first Snipe of the Autumn was on the Top New Piece today, earlier than we'd usually expect but another sure sign the seasons are progressing.

Canoe Safari
A male Cuckoo was singing from trees around the area this morning and occasionally from the Spinney woodland next to the Zeiss Hide.

Zeiss Hide
Bird counted on the Top New Piece this morning included 32 Avocet, 10 Redshank, 50 Black-tailed Godwit, a Grey Heron, a Little-ringed Plover and the first Snipe of the autumn.

Rushy Hide
A pair of Little-ringed Plover were nest scraping again this morning on the lower pond. The pair of Oystercatcher with 3 chicks were very close to the hide again. Also seen were 26 adult Avocet plus several chicks, two Mediterranean Gulls and 14 adult Shelduck plus 2 broods of ducklings.
