More Swans

Rushy

A trickle of new Bewicks Swan over the past few days counts now up to 89, (86 on Rushy overnight). Lively in here with Pochard moving out to other parts of the site 46 left by 10.00, Pintail 76. Four snipe were on the lower pool and a Water rail appeared at the back of the pond. No sign of Goldeneye so far.

Estuary Tower

The 8 Pinkfeet were among the Canada and Barnacle flock with the Bar Head and an Egyptian Goose. Shelduck 110 and Curlew 78 were scattered across the estuary. A handsome immature Marsh Harrier caused a stir flushing at least 35 Snipe and 20 Skylark from the spartina island.

Tack Piece

Wigeon 1100 here with a Curlew 96, Lapwing 320, Golden Plover 300 , Dunlin 170 and a single Black tailed Godwit with a damaged leg. The Whitefront flock is just visible over the hedge to the north.

Willow Hide

The two Water rail were showing well and a Cettis was calling nearby.

South Lake

A great selection of ducks including many close up birds. Shoveler 80, and Pochard 78 were the most numerous. The Black Tailed Godwit flock were resting here, 240 were counted but small flocks were flying out to the adjacent road fields along with around 300 Lapwing. The usual good selection of Gulls species, ages and plumages including a GBB Gull for comparison.

Zeiss Hide

Wigeon 374 and Teal 286 dominating the duck counts another Egyptian Gooose was here. Waders dominated by Lapwing 400, Dunlin 94 and a single Redshank.

Kingfisher Hide

More Lapwing (115) and Dunlin (151) here. Two pairs of Gadwall close to the hide, two Bewicks on the Bottom New Piece and a Great Spotted Woodpecker at the feedimng station.
