Scarce Chasers on the wing

The warm weather has encouraged plenty of damselflies and dragonflies to emerge this week, our first Scarce Chasers were seen yetserday with more appearing today. This male of the this species is blue with both male and female showing bright blue eyes. When they first emerge its known as the teneral stage where they appear orange (see pic). Other species noted include Lare Red, Azure, Common Blue, Blue-tailed and Large Red eyed Damselfies, Four spotted Chaser and Hairy Dragonfly.

Around the hides we noted..

Rushy Hide

The busy Avocet and Black-headed Gull colony, male Garganey accompanying the Tufted Ducks and Mallards.

South Lake

Both Little-ringed and Ringed Plover present, 67 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Avocet, 2 pairs of Oystercatcher one with three young, second calendar year Mediterranenan Gull.

Great White Egret (also flew over Rushy to N of reserve), Spoonbill, 7 Redshank, 30+ Avocet, 2 male Wigeon, Greenshank, 2 Little-ringed Plover and a Dunlin.

7 Grey Heron, 2 Little Egret, 5 Knot, 160+ Dunlin/Ringed Plover, 3+ Sanderling, 11 Bar-tailed Godwit, 20 Curlew and 2 Avocet
