Spot the nest

Spring is moving along quickly with the young of many birds starting to appear, although some birds are only just getting going.

Spring is moving along quickly with the young of many birds starting to appear, although some birds are only just getting going. Our volunteer Guide in the Hide Dot was watching the Reed Warblers in front of the Zeiss Hide this morning when she spotted a pair building their nest on full view from the hide. Hopefully we'll be able to watch the family life play out over the next few weeks, and there's always the chance of a Cuckoo calling in!

Kingfisher Hide
The pair of Kingfishers have been seen mating again this afternoon, so we're hopeful of a second brood.

Zeiss Hide
The Spoonbill was again on the Top New Piece scrape, occasionally waking up to preen. A pair of Little=ringed Plover were on the mud mid morning, with the earlier hide round also producing 26 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Redshank, 3 drake Shoveler, a Little Grebe and two Grey Heron.

South Lake
A flock of 49 Black-tailed Godwit were on the wader scrape this morning along with a pair of Little Ringed Plover and 4 Avocet. The pair of Great Crested Grebe were on the deep lake along with a single Cormorant, 11 Tufted Duck, a drake Teal and a Little Grebe. The Oystercatcher family still have three chicks very close to the hide.

Robbie Garnett Hide
Cranes Monty & Evie were on the Tack Piece this morning along with 31 Gadwall and 16 Barnacle Geese. A Kingfisher was at the nearby Martin Smith Hide.

Rushy Hide
A total of 49 Avocet were on the lower pond this morning and a second calendar year Mediterranean Gull was on the causeway. A brood of 3 Shelduck were in front of the Peng Observatory.
