Temminck's Stint

A Temminck's Stint arrive on the Top New Piece today, although the heat haze hampered viewing it could be seen on and off as it crept about on the same island that the Crane pair (Oakie and Sherbert) are nesting on. A few of these small waders have appeared in the UK this week but they remain a scarce visitor.

Also on the Top New Piece from Zeiss Hide were a pair of Garganey, a pair of Teal, pair of Wigeon, 11 Lapwing including pairs defending broods, Common Sandpiper, the Black-tailed Godwits spent the day feeding here too. Another male Garganey was on the distant Bottom New Piece flood with 4 Avocet.

South Lake

Little-ringed Plover, 70 Black-tailed Godwit (early morning only), 13 Avocet, 5 Lapwing (sadly failed breeders from Dumbles/New Pieces?), 2 Little Grebe and 4 Shelduck.

Kingfisher Hide

Great views and regular feeding visits by both Kingfisher parents through the day. A Marsh Harrier was seen briefly. Cetti's and Reed Warblers singing.

Rushy Hide

Little-ringed Plover, second calendar year Mediterranean Gull and nesting Avocets and Black-headed Gulls. At least one Lapwing on top pond.

Tack Piece

Two Lapwing, one Oystercatcher, 1 Wigeon, 2 drake Teal, 8 Avocet, 10 Shelduck and 6 Gadwall.

Middle Point

Two Little Egret, 4 Grey Heron, three Ringed Plover and two Dunlin at low tide plus the usual large gulls. Yellow Wagtail heard and a Tree Pipit was reported to us from visiting birders in the morning.
