The heat is building up

Another hot day and building temperatures through to the weekend.

The waders are very mobile today as they move from scrape to scrape and to the estuary and back, some counts from this morning were as follows.

South Lake

Single Black-tailed Godwit (150+ dropped in for a time), 2 Spotted Redshank, 4 Ruff, 49 Redshank, 3 Little-ringed Plover, up to 5 Lapwing and Oystercatcher. The pair of Cranes (Ruby/wild) were in the tall reeds in the duck marsh.

Rushy Hide

252 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Ruff, 6 Redshank, 3 Green Sandpiper (visiting Spotted Redshanks).

Tack Piece

Seven Green Sandpipers, a juvenile Little-ringed Plover, 2 Lapwing and a Teal.

Top New Piece

Greenshank early morning but flew to Bottom New Piece (different to estuary bird), 11 Dunlin, 2 Green Sandpiper, 50+ Lapwing.

Estuary Tower

77 Shelduck, Greenshank, 5 Dunlin, 6 Oysercatcher + 5 Black-tailed Godwit on the mudflats, a Common Tern flew upriver.

Visitor Centre

Lots of House Martin activity about the buildings and nest sites.
