A little damp on and off today, but high tide pushed in a few birds to the Top New Piece, viewed from the Zeiss Hide.

Zeiss Hide
Before high tide this morning were a nice collection of waders including 10 Little-ringed Plover, 19 Avocet, eight Redshank, four Black-tailed Godwit, 14 Dunlin, a pair of Oystercatcher, two Ruff and eight Lapwing. During the high tide period these were joined by the Spotted Redshank and three Red Knot, two of which were still in summer plumage.

Estuary Tower
Two Cattle Egret flew over this morning, coming in from the north and heading over the Dumbles before dropping in with the cattle on the land neighbouring the reserve. The local heronry of breeding Little Egret was also very busy today with lots of flights of juvenile birds seen. Over the high tide, at least seven Little Egret roosted on the spartina island with three Grey Heron. Nearby on the edge of the Dumbles was a roost of at least 143 Curlew plus a few Redshank and Oystercatcher.

Summer Walkway
A Kingfisher was hunting in the ditch, viewable from the Goose House. A Yellow Wagtail was heard with the cattle.

South Lake
Birds this morning included the usual Avocet and Black-tailed Godwit along with 41 Redshank, two Oystercatcher, a pair of Little-ringed Plover and ten Teal. The Great Crested Grebe pair were on the deep lake.

Kingfisher Hide
The Crane family were seen today, the chick looking well.

Rushy Hide
A family of two adult and three juvenile Avocet were on the lower pond this morning along with two Redshank and two Green Sandpiper.
