Touring Great White Egret

Great White Egret

At least one has spent the late summer period with us, often feeding in ditches North of the visitor centre. This bird (or another) has been touring the scrapes today, it was spotted at the Pill Box Pool and South Lake before heading toward the Top New Piece.

Top New Piece

Eight juvenile Ruff, single Redshank,a juvenile Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Green Sandpiper and a Snipe were feeding on the exposed mud. 38 Greylag + Teal, Shoveler and Gadwall. Wader numbers should increase over the tide. Many of the duck feed in the adjacent ditches

so tend to appear on the flood and islands later in the day. Keep an eye out for the Garganey among them.

South Lake

The wader flock was rather tightly bunched together on this mornings count and hidden by 260 Greylag. The Spotted Redshank, at least 7 Ruff and 15 Redshank were secreted among the Black-tailed Godwits, 70+ Lapwing and an assortment of duck species present including Pintail on deep lake. The Great White Egret called in which is where Frankie managed to take the picture.
