Two more Ruff

Top New Piece from Zeiss Hide

Three male Ruff (blonde, black and white phases) and two Reeves, 2 Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, 92 Black-tailed Godwit, 5 Little-ringed Plover (4 adults, 1 juvenile), 3 adult breeding plumage Dunlin, 7 Redshank, 52 Avocet + the newly hatched chick, Swifts/Sand Martins feeding over the flood.


South Lake

53 Gadwall, 2 female Pochard, 7 Teal, 3 Shoveler, Great C Grebe + chick on deep lake, 44 Avocet (15+ juveniles), 2 Little-ringed Plover on nests with at least one feeding, 40 Redshank, 4 Oystercatcher and 37 Black-tailed Godwit (includes the first arriving limosa juvenile of 2020), male Ruff (black and white phase), Yellow Wagtail low overhead NE, at least 54 fledged Black-headed Gull with the roosting adults, a few chicks still on the islands.

Middle Point

3 Little Egret, 40+ Shelduck and 20+ Curlew, a few Great Black-backed Gulls and feeding Black-headed Gulls on the mudflats. Dumbles- 52 Lapwing +singing and sparring Skylarks, Starlings, Rooks and Jackdaws.

Rushy Hide

2 Green Sandpiper (numbers fluctuate during the day, this species is very mobile), 4 Redshank including a fledged juvenile, 7 Avocet (brood of 2 and 3 that have relocated from South Lake), 5 Lapwing, 3 Teal, 11 Gadwall.

Tack Piece

Adult Little-ringed Plover, Green Sandpiper and 6 Lapwing.

At least 4 Song Thrush utilising exposed stones as 'anvils' along the path that leads to Estuary Tower. They use them to smash snail shells. Also G.S Woodpecker, Great Tits, Robins, Wrens and singing Blackcap.
