Whitefronts and Pinkfooted Geese

Kingfisher Hide

Lots of activity from both Kingfishers around the nesting bank this morning. This is the best time to come and see these special birds as they pair up, display, pass fish to the female and excavate the burrow. usually active all day especially on brighter days.
The Whitefronts were showing very well from here fuirst thing with 126 including the 2 juvenile Greenlands. There was also a pair of adult Pink-footed Geese. A Cettis was singing close to the hide.

Zeiss Hide

Still a good lot of Wigeon (220) and a scattering of Teal. There were 46 Avocet busy feeding and a flock of 101 Dunlin were roosting on the island. A pair of Oystercatchers were here and a count of 32 Lapwing included several that are already holding territory and performing their display flights.

South Lake

An increasingly colourful flock of 300 Black Tailed Godwits were mostly sleeping as were another 25 Avocet. The scrape is still busy with Teal and 86 Shoveler and 9 Pochard, 61 Tufted Duck and a Little Grebe were on the lake. There were 8 Cormorant and 2 pairs of Oystercatcher.

Road Fields

A scattering of feral Geese here and a pair of cranes with 3 Roe Deer south of the road.

Estuary Tower

Still 239 Wigeon on the Dumbles otherwise very quiet here with only singing Skylark to brighten the scene.

Tack Piece

another 94 Wigeon here also 58 Curlew, 10 Redshank an Oystercatcher and Chalky the very white Buzzard.

Rushy

Still 60 Redshank here with a sheltering flock of 8 Redshank a pair of Oystercatchers and at least 2 Snipe in their usual place on the left of the lower pool.
