Winter ducks arriving

This week we've seen several Wigeon and the first Pintail of the season arrive, with Teal numbers also increasing

This week we've seen several Wigeon and the first Pintail of the season arrive, with Teal numbers also increasing.

South Lake
Two Snipe were showing well close to hide this morning on the wader scrape. Roosting further out were a flock of 262 Black-tailed Godwit, and a juvenile Redshank. The deep lake 86 Shoveler, 52 Gadwall, two Wigeon and five Cormorant.

Zeiss Hide
Two 2 Spoonbill were again on the Top New Piece this morning.

Decoy Hide
Ten Gadwall were on the pond, and two Jay flew into the Decoy Wood.

Estuary Tower
A Marsh Harrier was quartering the Dumbles and riverbank this morning. Also on the Dumbles were a Crane pair, Kia & Chocolo, with their juvenile on the riverbank. Also here were 130 Barnacle Geese, the Ross's Goose and the Snow Goose x Bar-headed Goose hybrid. Over volunteer John Budd also saw a Bittern in flight over the Top New Piece before flying into the Decoy and Canoe Safari area. Later in the morning the bird was seen in flight over the Rushy, heading again towards the Decoy area.

Rushy Hide
Six Wigeon (five males) and a Pintail were present this morning, along with 73 Black-tailed Godwit, three Ruff, two Redshank and a Shoveler.
