Work continues on South Lake

Work is progressing well on the South Lake, whilst are birds are enjoying other areas of the reserve

Work is progressing well on the South Lake, whilst are birds are enjoying other areas of the reserve. Yesterday's rain didn't help but the sunshine today is welcome as we begin work creating the new beaches and islands in front of the Discovery Hide.

This morning's hide round produced the following sightings:

Rushy Hide
The Black Swan has relocated here from the Big Pen. Please note that contractors may be working near the buildings between the Peng Observatory and Scott House this week.

Middle Point
Two Whinchat and two Wheatear were on the cross fence this morning along with a Reed Bunting and several Meadow Pipit. A flock of 300+ small waders were to the north, and also noted were three Little Egret, two Greenshank, a Spotted Redshank and 107 Shelduck.

Robbie Garnett Hide
The Tack Piece held 743 Teal, 28 Gadwall, six Wigeon, two Redshank, a Little Egret and four Shoveler this morning.

Zeiss Hide
The Spoonbill was on the Top New Piece this morning.
