Out and About with the Steart Marshes Team

Brymore Academy Open Day and Country Fair - Saturday 30 June 2018

The Steart Marshes team were out at Brymore for a very successful open day at the weekend. As well as an opportunity to find out about the school, the day includes an agricultural show, vintage vehicles and steam engines, demonstrations including blacksmithing, spinning, and animal care, trade stands, and plenty of local food and drink to try.

We were busy running demonstrations of our working wetland model all day and talked to almost 300 people – at some points we had queues waiting to see how it works! This was a great opportunity to spread the word about working wetlands and talk about flood defence, how water can be slowed and cleaned, wildlife habitats, and of course what a great place Steart Marshes is to visit.

Hinkley Point Family Day - Sunday 1 July

Another day, another stand, this time at the Hinkley Point family day which welcomes people new to the area and gives them ideas of places to visit and things to do locally. This gave us the opportunity to talk to another 70 people about working wetlands and the work that we do here.

Putting the equipment away this morning I noticed a visitor to our wetland demonstration model … a common field grasshopper!

A big thank you to everyone who helped, watched and asked questions at these events over the weekend. We hope to see you at Steart Marshes very soon.
