EEK!-xperience the weirder side of wetlands this half-term
Calling all f-f-f-families - the frighteningly fantastic eek! week is returning to Washington Wetland Centre this October!
Join us as we get close to the weird and wonderful side of wetland nature during this interactive, outdoor event.
Winding its way through wetland and woodland, our accessible trail will put your nerves and senses to the test while revealing more about the wildlife that lurks there, through a series of sound buttons, facts and feely boxes.
Will you dare to put your hand in the mystery creature box, grab a photo op with a bat or get personal with a toad? It’s a freakishly fun wildlife learning eek!-xperience for the whole family!
While you’re here, don’t miss our wild autumnal highlights, including migratory birds arriving at Wader Lake, woodlands ablaze with colour and kingfisher sightings on the increase.
Plus, we have a calendar of special events taking place across the October half-term period (from Saturday 21 October-Sunday 5 November), suitable for all ages and interests.
- Daily until 30 November – Drawn to Water: Quentin Blake at WWT – collect your illustrated trail map complete with Sir Quentin Blake’s wonderful drawings and see our wetlands in a whole new light.
- Saturday 21 October, 10.30am-3pm – Guide in the Hide – learn more about how to ID the wildlife you can see from our hides.
- Sunday 22 October, 11am-noon – Wild Walk – enjoy a seasonal guided walk around our wetlands, looking at the latest birdlife and fungi.
- Monday 23 and Friday 27 October / Wednesday 1 and Sunday 5 November, 1-2.30pm – pond dipping – discover more about the creatures that live in our Pond Zone during these drop-in sessions.
- Wednesday 1 November, 10.30am and 11am (pre-booking essential) – relaxed pond dipping – more informal sessions with extra space and fewer people, suitable for those with additional needs.
- Wednesday 25 and Sunday 29 October, 1-2.30pm (small charges apply) – Halloween arts and crafts in the Discovery Centre.
- Saturday 28 October, 11am-noon – fungi walk – discover a host of seasonal fungi on this guided reserve walk.
- Monday 30 October, 2-3pm – decorate a spooky cookie at the icing station in Waterside Café.
- Thursday 2 November, 11am-noon, £15pp (pre-booking essential) – clay workshop with Amy Brooks – join artist Amy Brooks in this fun, creative children’s art workshop.
- Thursday 2 November, 1-2pm – air-dry clay crafts – drop-in clay crafting session in the Discovery Centre.
