Are you brave enough to eek!splore the mysterious side of wetland nature on a day out at Washington Wetland Centre?

Put your courage to the test during eek! Weeks this October and get hands on with our new, interactive family trail to discover the weird but wonderful world of wetland wildlife.

eek! Weeks at WWT Washington Oct 2022 (11).jpgFrom the feathered and furred to the slimy and scaly, there are some truly incredible creatures that call wetlands home. So keep your eyes peeled and ears pricked as you engage all your senses while learning more about them with our hands-on activities.

Will you dare feel what’s inside our mystery box, grab a photo op with a bat or get up close to flamingo sick!? It’s a weirdly wild day out for the whole family!

WWT Washington’s PR & marketing executive Leanne McCormella said: “For a day out with a difference this October, our eek! Weeks event gives families the chance to connect with nature while enjoying a fantastic, fun, wildlife learning experience.

“Autumn is such a special time to visit our wonderful wetlands – with highlights including migratory birds, colourful woodlands, late dragonflies and peaceful waterscapes – and the added extra of a nature-based interactive trail is a brilliant way for children to get outdoors and use all their senses to explore the wild world around them”.

The eek Weeks! interactive trail is self-led and runs throughout the day (10am-5.30pm, last admission 4.30pm) from Saturday 1-Monday 31 October. Cost is included in admission (free to members).

Pond dipping.jpgDelve into the world underwater this October too, with pond dipping sessions suitable for all ages during the half-term holiday.

Search for water snails, great diving beetles and more with help from our education team at the Pond Zone. Learn how to safely catch and ID your finds before carefully releasing them back into the water.

This is a free activity included as part of normal admission (free to members). Sessions are drop-in and run from 1-2.30pm on Monday 24, Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 October.
