Get ready for May Half Term fun

May half term is just around the corner, and we couldn't be more excited to share what we've got coming to keep your family entertained.

The sun has finally got its hat on, and we're gearing up for lots of indoor and outdoor fun here at WWT Washington Wetland Centre. Join us for nature-inspired arts and crafts, wild walks, creative sessions and more! Here’s a rundown of things not to be missed:

Pond dipping (Sunday 26 and Friday 31 May, 1-3pm)

Drop by and explore the world underwater this half term during family-friendly pond dipping sessions. Visit the interactive Pondzone and search for water snails, pond skaters and many more.

Natural printing (Thursday 30 May, 1-3pm)

Join our learning team in Hollowood for natural printing and enjoy printing and mark-making techniques such as hapa-zome (the Japanese art of leaf-dying), or try your hand at painting with feathers. This is a great activity for families to enjoy and you can take home anything you create!

Wild Walks – (Monday 27 May and Sunday 2 June, 11am-12noon)

Join us for a Wild Walk and get to know our reserve a little better! Meet at 11am in the picture window and enjoy some time with our knowledgeable team. Each walk is themed, with bees and butterflies taking centre stage on Monday 27 May, and bird song filling your ears on Sunday 2 June, so no two walks are the same!

Head down to Wader Lake or Lagoon View hide to see wetland birds, or enjoy spotting woodland birds from Hawthorn Wood hide. If bugs are more your thing, search on plants and flowers all around site and keep your eye out for newly emerging damsel and dragonflies!

Whatever you're interested in, don't forget to pick up a spotter guide or view online to help introduce the kids to wildlife or to enhance your ID skills!

APP quiz master

If you love testing your knowledge and recalling your visit, why not try one of our new in-app quizzes? For each exhibit there's a short quiz to complete - perfect for kids and grown-ups alike.

Download the app and test your knowledge at Ganderland with our Hawaiian goose quiz, or explore Hunters Creek and see how much you know about our bar-headed geese. With many more quizzes available for each exhibit, you can have fun and learn as you go. It's a fantastic activity for the whole family to enjoy together!
