Making other days out seem a little dry!

With the summer season in full swing, a visit to WWT Washington Wetland Centre can make other days out seem a little dry.

Spending time near water is an essential summer experience and makes for unforgettable family memories – watching fluffy ducklings learning to swim, spotting tadpoles transforming into frogs, finding wildlife flourishing beside streams and rivers – water is never boring!

WWT Washington is an easy, safe place to connect with nature and the wonders of watery wetlands. Open 364 days a year, our award-winning, family-friendly site offers visitors of all ages unforgettable close-up wildlife encounters and beautiful scenery all year round.

Join us every Tuesday and Thursday this summer holiday and discover what lurks beneath the surface of a pond with interactive pond dipping sessions (free with admission, 11am-noon and 1-2pm).

Or hunt for mini-beasts in Hollowood every Monday and Friday (free with admission, 11am-noon and 1-2pm) and have a go at den-building every Wednesday (£3 per den, 11am-noon and 1-2pm).

Meet Musa and Mimi, the Asian short-clawed otters, at their twice-daily feed (11.30am and 3pm) and hear all about our stunning pink Chilean flamingos during twice-daily talks (11.15am and 2.45pm).

On Saturday 17 August, get stuck into bushcraft and campfire cooking (£2 per person, 11am-noon and 1-2pm) and enjoy a guided walk with our reserve manager, as he shows visitors our seasonal highlights (free with admission, 2pm).

Plus, on Friday 23 August, don't miss our spectacular birds of prey day (free with admission, 10am-5pm) and wicked woodcraft workshops (free with admission, 11am-2pm).

WWT Washington Wetland Centre has 45 hectares of wetlands, woodlands, meadows and nature reserve; home to rare wildfowl, Asian short-clawed otters, Chilean flamingos, Eurasian cranes, woodland birds and other wildlife.

Enjoy comfortable lake-side and woodland hides, easy buggy and wheelchair-friendly pathways, Waterside Café serving delicious home-made food and a well-stocked gift shop.
