Reserve access
Water levels are creeping up on the reserve at present. Over the weekend we might have to close the summer walk and the dragonfly ponds if this continues. Access to all the hides should not be affected by this.
Swan feeds are still running as normal with plenty of pochard activity at the 3.30pm feeds, large flocks of black-tailed godwits, lapwing and golden plover are using the reserve and can be seen throughout the day.
Hare walks have just started and yesterday's highlights were two short-eared owls and a hare five metres away from the group.
At dusk, most of the swans that have been feeding out on the fields are flying back onto the reserve. Good numbers of Bewick's swans coming in to the top end of the reserve (far right of Friends hide). The evening feeds are best for good numbers of whooper swans and we have now got some familiar faces turning up for these. Always worth bringing a camera or binoculars so that you can read the ring numbers and look up those swans at our swan research station in the main hide.
