Reserve management works

Currently the water levels have been lowered on the pools in front of our Nelson-Lyle, Lyle and Friends hides.  This is to allow the reserve team access to create the prefect conditions for birds passing through in late summer and autumn, as well as birds returning for winter.  The scapes will be redefinded and vegetation will be cut back, then the levels will be raised again before the weekend.

There is still water in front of the main hide and on Lady Fen, providing alternative areas for any birds currently with us to use.  Good numbers of snipe as well as wood sandpiper, green sandpiper, common sandpiper, greeshank and ruff are regularly using these areas.
