Swans begin their spring migration

Hundreds of Bewick's swans were visible on our final two swan's awake mornings last week and seemed reluctant to fly out very early. This seems to be because they were resting up ready to migrate - as seen with one of our GPS tagged birds, Daisy Clarke, setting off on her migration before the weekend. We hope she has a safe journey back to her breeding grounds alongside the other Bewick's swans. With conditions warming up and a tail wind helping the swans get towards the Netherlands, Leho - the second GPS tagged Bewick's swan to winter at WWT Welney, might not be far behind!

We are witnessing migration in other birds too, with 9 brent geese dropping in to the reserve briefly on Wednesday and numbers of lapwing and golden plover increasing dramatically!
