Martin Mere from a Volunteer Perspective

Martin Mere not only welcomes a huge range of birds and other wildlife, but also welcomes a large team of volunteers. As a recent volunteer in the shop and ‘behind the scenes’ with the marketing and administration departments, I’ve learnt a lot about how the centre works in order to ensure that all visitors have an enjoyable time here. I’ve been able to undertake a wide variety of tasks; from welcoming visitors on their arrival to Martin Mere; making phone calls; helping to organise the up-coming Animal Magic weekend and even signing for the postal deliveries of the live creatures that are fed to the otters! It’s not all been about what goes on inside the centre though, as part of my marketing placement I have been out into the grounds to take pictures of what the wildlife has been up to- so that I can share photographs like these with you!

It looks like our black swans are relaxing in the shade- far too much to be done in the office to relax though!

Fancy getting involved? There are many opportunities to volunteer for the WWT so check out the ‘volunteer’ page on the website to find out more information.
