Five European White-fronted Geese with Pink-footed Geese this morning. As usual the geese flocks are mobile so there is always an element of unpredictability in catching up with these birds(see wild goose chase..).

Three Marsh Harrier so far today, 2 Peregrine, 2 Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

Waders include 900+ Lapwing, 70+ Ruff, 36 Black-tailed Godwit, 10+ Common Snipe, 6 Golden Plover and 5 Dunlin.

Among the thousands of ducks on the Mere, the first Goldeneye of the autumn a first year male.

A noticeable influx of Blackbirds over the past few days, with small groups tolerating one another whilst feeding on Hawthorn and shriveled Elderberry. Flocks of Fieldfare moving over the reserve too with some birds dropping in. Fewer Redwing so far this autumn.
