A dawn count of Bewick's Swan produced 106 birds

A dawn count of Bewick's Swan produced 106 birds (25 juveniles), five were on the Tack Piece.

Still numbers of ducks joining the Bewick's Swans but the Greater Scaup wasn't seen yesterday or so far today.

South Lake
Now 45 Black-tailed Godwit and a couple of hundred Lapwing returning after the freeze, a female Goldeneye was on the deep lake section with the Tufted Ducks and the Bittern was in its usual place along the East shore. Shoveler and Teal scattered across the scrape with 7 Wigeon, Common, Black-headed and Herring Gulls loafing on the scrape and causeway.

Kingfisher Hide (Bottom New Piece)
Ross's Goose, 280 Canada Geese + Barnacle Geese, 2 Barnacle x Greylag Goose hybrids and Snow x Bar-headed Goose hybrid, Song Thrushes and Redwings were in the field and Shoveler along the channel.

Top New Piece
Five Ruff, 120 Lapwing, 70 Dunlin, 5 Snipe, G. Heron, 32 Pintail, 130 Teal, Pied Wagtails, Skylarks, Starlings, Song Thrushes and Redwings on the cut grass.

Tack Piece
The flood on the centre of the field is proving popular with ducks, geese and swans including a dozen Russian White-fronted Geese, Golden Plover and Lapwing numbers are building up again, 600 Wigeon, 300 Teal, Pintail, Shoveler and a few Pochard were on the scrape.
