An incubated egg at week 4

Every day this week we are showing you how new life develops inside an egg. The hatching will take place on Friday in time for our Downy Duckling Week that is starting on Saturday 25 May.

At 4 weeks the duckling is almost fully grown and the egg is dominated by a large black mass that is the duckling. The duckling is close to hatching as they need a 28 day incubation period. The airspace is very large and hatching begins when the duckling breaks into this airspace and starts to breath for the first time.

All next week you can take part in candling workshops to see all these stages right in front of you. It is a great event for everyone to enjoy.
